The Chlorine Tango

Watch this couple dance underwater.

You think it’s hard to tango? Try tangoing underwater while holding your breath.

That’s what Marisa Cecchetti of Freediver Dancer does in this video. She and her partner Maurizio Carletti tango while floating underwater in a very deep pool. Adding to the impressiveness of the routine, they’re not wearing any kind of breathing apparatus—only goggles so that they can see each other clearly.

Both are dressed traditionally: Cecchetti wears a red dress, Carletti wears all black. He presents her with a rose. She smells it, then throws it away, leaving it to float in the pool. The water slows down the dancers’ movements, but they turn that slow motion into something graceful. At one point, they execute their footwork on the floor of the pool, as if it were a ballroom floor. Thankfully, it looks like they’re taking breaks for air.
