A new Science Advances study shows an alarming decline in our ability to see the Milky Way.* The cause: light pollution.

If you live in North America, there’s an 80 percent chance you can no longer see it. That’s 60 percent among Europeans and in Singapore and Malta, virtually no one can see the Milky Way at all. In North America, the light is especially pervasive in the eastern United States. Authors of the study offered a simple solution. See more in the video above.
