Portals to Westeros

Real doors made from fallen trees on the Kingsroad.

In Northern Ireland, a series of Game of Thrones-themed doors are being created to tell the story of each season six episode. Many of the show’s iconic locations are filmed in Northern Ireland, and the intricately carved wooden doors themselves are made from fallen trees along the Dark Hedges—the filming location of the famed Kingsroad.

In January 2016, the Dark Hedges were hit hard by Storm Gertrude, but the trees that fell are now getting second, George R.R. Martin-ispired lives. Tourism Ireland will release a video unveiling each of the 10 doors, and the first door is in The Cuan, a licensed guest inn located in Strangford. No word on if walking through one of these doors will take you into Westeros, Chronicles of Narnia-style.
