Did You See This?

Hi-Def Auroras

We’ve never seen the Aurora Borealis quite like this.

This gorgeous video is from NASA Television’s new NASA TV UHD—for “ultra-high-definition”—series. It’s  full of spectacularly vivid views of the Auroras Borealis and Australis from the International Space Station. While we’ve seen auroras from space before, we’ve never seem them with such stunning clarity.

NASA commissioned Harmonic, a digital content delivery company, to produce the time-lapse video using high-resolution still images taken from the ISS.

Though the star of the show is the rippling green auroral activity, the ISS camera captures many other incredible sights, from a rapidly sinking moon to lightning below, all sped up via time-lapse. The dazzling starscape alone is, frankly, worth the price of admission.
