The First and Final Frames of TV Shows

From Friends to The Sopranos.

Inspired by Jacob T. Swinney’s supercut of first and final frames of films, editor Celia Gómez has created a companion video for TV shows. Gomez places shots from the first and final frames of shows side by side, from Friends to The Sopranos, with 18 pairs in all. Gómez’s previous work includes a compilation of the movie references in The Simpsons.

Some of these comparisons serve to illustrate how much a character has changed. In Mad Men, Don Draper goes from drinking alone in a bar to meditating by the water. Some of these pairs of shots are remarkably similar, seeming to indicate that things have stayed the same, like Frasier or The Newsroom. And some act as perfect bookends to the show: In Lost, we see Jack’s eye opening, juxtaposed with his eye closing in the finale.

You might get a little emotional remembering the endings of some of your favorite TV shows. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll be promoted to rewatch them. Which is never a bad decision.
