The Gendered Brain

Researchers investigate the difference between male and female brains.

In an attempt to determine the difference between male and female brains, researchers at Tel-Aviv University analyzed over 1,400 specimens. They looked primarily at three features that have previously been shown to correlate with gender: patterns of brain connectivity, grey matter (the meat of the brain), and white matter (cells that help grey matter areas communicate).

The researchers reasoned that if there really are pronounced differences between male and female brains, then they should see a clear split in these features: one set of features in men’s brains, and another in women’s. The video above details the surprising results of their study.
