According to scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, mysterious glimmers on Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, could be huge waves of liquid methane crashing against its surface.
The Cassini spacecraft, in orbit around Saturn since 2004, first spotted the glimmers on Ligeia Mare, a lake in the north polar region of Titan, back in 2013. One year later, the glimmers had disappeared. Then in 2015, they were back, leaving puzzled astronomers to dub them “magic islands.” Now, astronomers believe they’ve found the answer to the mystery once and for all.
