Buggy Skis

A wild ski suit with ski blades all over.

In the video above from filmmaker Danny Strasser, we watch “Ski Man”—Jean Yves Blondeau—as he rolls and tumbles down a ski slope in Lech-Zuers, Austria.*

But that’s OK, because what he’s wearing is designed for just for this kind of chaotic athleticism. Dubbed “Buggy Skis,” it’s essentially a ski suit that has—in addition to standard ho-hum foot skis—ski blades mounted on its wearer’s arms, knees, chest, and back. So, no matter which way he falls, pretty much, he’s still skiing. The Spider-Man-like helmet completes the look.

Blondeau also goes by the name of “Rollerman,” and in that guise has appeared in Jackie Chan’s Chinese Zodiac and Jim Carrey’s Yes Man films. The Buggy Skis are his invention, and are based on his earlier street creation, “Buggy Rolling,” which has skate wheels strategically placed all over.

“I have many possibilities to ride, and many possibilities to have fun,” says Blondeau in the video. He can go slow or fast, and he looks pretty crazy at any speed, as he propels himself every which way down the slopes. Other skiers are well advised to give him a wide berth.

Update, March 30, 2016: This paragraph now includes the video’s creator.
