Vindication for Two-Finger Typists

Researchers at Aalto University in Finland looked at how people moved their fingers while typing by using a motion-capture system with 12 high-speed infrared cameras. They found that the number of fingers used doesn’t affect typing speed: touch typists who utilize all 10 fingers were neck and neck, or knuckle and knuckle, with those who were self-taught. Using finger-to-key mapping, or which finger is used to press certain keys, the team found commonalities between how we all type: when it comes to speed, fast typists use the same finger to press the same key every time and tend to keep their hands steady.
