The Bug Census

The 62 different arthropod families found in the average Raleigh, North Carolina, home.

Entomologists publishing in the journal PeerJ assessed 50 houses in the vicinity of Raleigh, North Carolina, and found each house hosted an average of 62 different arthropod families with an average of 93 different species per home. They found mostly ants, flies, beetles, and spiders, which isn’t too big of a surprise, but there are still plenty of others. The good news is that most of the bugs they found were benign.
