Robotic Dog Project Put Down by Military

Alpha Dog’s bark was louder than its bite.

Boston Dynamics’ Alpha Dog, a military project in development with DARPA, has been shelved. According to military.com, rigorous testing with the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab in the summer of 2014 exposed crucial shortcomings with the robotic mule.

The tests—which were part of Exercise Rim of the Pacific, the largest military exercise in the Pacific region—made it clear that robot was too loud, and would give away its position to enemy combatants.
