In response to the 200-plus unprovoked shark attacks off the coast of Australian beaches during the last 20 years, Perth company Shark Mitigation Systems has developed a sonar- and satellite-based warning technology aimed at cutting down future attacks. Dubbed Clever Buoy, the sonar component detects sharks in the water, then relays an alert to lifeguard towers on the beach via satellite.
