Vintage Flyby Kicks Off the D-Day Anniversary Celebrations

A Lancaster and two Spitfires were on the guest list.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of D-Day, three British World War II–era planes—a Lancaster bomber and two Spitfires—performed a flyby over Arromanches beach in Normandy in today. The aerial salute was a part one of many ceremonies taking place in the French town, as world leaders and veterans—as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge—came from around the world to commemorate the historic event.
