Wingsuit Skydivers Soar Over Lower Manhattan

Definitely look down.

I felt good about my rooftop access in Brooklyn until I saw this footage from Red Bull’s latest stunt. The video above—in typical “Red Bull gives you wings” fashion—shows the wingsuit-aided skydive of five Red Bull Air Force members over lower Manhattan, all from the point of view of one of the jumpers.

The skydive—which was legally cleared with the city and FAA—began at around 7,500 feet from the door of a small aircraft, and, after a two-minute freefall at 120 miles per hour, ended on a barge in the Hudson River.

The jumpers deployed their parachutes after passing 1 World Trade Center, finishing the mind-bending stunt with ease.

The jump took place May 18 as part of the festivities surrounding the Bethpage Air Show in Long Island, which was held over Memorial Day weekend. You can watch a behind-the-scenes look at what went into making the skydive happen below.
