The Scars of San Francisco Bay

Rediscovering a ship that went down 45 years before the Golden Gate Bridge was built. 

A vessel called The City of Chester, built in 1875, suffered a heavy blow when it was rammed by a huge steamer in dense fog of the San Francisco Bay early on Aug. 22, 1888. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said this week it had located the site.
