Soaring Off the Burj Khalifa

Jaw-dropping video of a BASE jump from the world’s tallest building.

Welp, this is the most insane thing you’ll see today. Or ever. Two BASE jumpers leapt off the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai last week, a feat that both rekindled my crippling fear of heights and shattered the world record for highest BASE jump. The jumpers—Fred Fugen and Vince Reffet—can be seen in the sleek video above leaping from a custom-made platform at the top of 2,717-foot-tall skyscraper, with colorful smoke billowing behind them as they plummet toward the ground.

Fugen and Reffet had been planning and training for the jump for more than a year, per Gulf News, and their efforts broke the record previously set in 2010 by Nasser Al Neyadi and Omar Alhegelan, who also jumped from the Burj Khalifa—albeit from a lower point on the building. “We feel happy for breaking the world record, but it wasn’t the main goal. We’ve been dreaming about BASE jumping from this special place, this unique place for three years now,” Fugen said after their record-breaking leap.
