Turning Sardines and Spam Into Surf and Turf

Slate's new cooking competition.

Imagine you had to prepare dinner with ingredients procured from a single aisle in the grocery store. That’s the challenge put to Dan Pashman and Liza de Guia in the first episode of our new video series Food Off Face Off.

Pashman, host of The Sporkful podcast, and de Guia, creator of the video blog Food Curated, are tasked with shopping and then preparing an entrée and a dessert that are tasted and sized up by our judges, NPR’s Mike Pesca and Erin Zimmer of Serious Eats.

Who says you can’t make a nice sushi with Fruit Roll-Ups and Pop-Tarts?
