Japan Nuclear Plant Explosion

Nuclear plant explosion releases radiation, raises meltdown fears following earthquake.

An explosion at a nuclear power station about 160 miles north of Tokyo Saturday tore down the walls of one building and caused a radiation leak of unknown proportions.

Japanese officials expanded the evacuation zone to a 12-mile radius around the plant, as they worked to try to cool the reactor with seawater.
