How do I sign in to Slate Plus?

In the upper right corner of Slate’s home page, you’ll find a little silhouette of a person’s head and shoulders. Click there to sign in.


If you created your account using your Facebook, Yahoo, Google, or Twitter account, make sure to click the appropriate button on the sign-up screen.

Where can I find all of the members-only stuff, like stories and event discount codes?

You can find everything via the Slate Plus home page. Here are some of the most commonly visited links:

On the Slate Plus home page, you’ll find your Slate Plus dashboard. Use the dashboard to access discount codes for upcoming Slate Live events, your account and billing information, and more.

Where do I go to manage my Slate Plus account?

How do I edit my credit card information?

Go to your Slate Plus account settings page and click “Edit” to the right of the Payment Information section.

I’m having problems signing in.

If you can’t sign in at all or are receiving an error message, we’ll need to get some technical details from you to help us troubleshoot.

Visit this page, and copy and paste the details on it into an email. Let us know what steps you’re taking, so we can try to replicate the error, and any error messages you see. Then send it to We’ll get back to you soon.

I’m signed in to the site, but:

I’m not being recognized as a Slate Plus member.
I’m still seeing ads for Slate Plus.
I still can’t read Slate Plus stories.

You may have created more than one user account without realizing it—one is a standard Slate account, and the other is for Slate Plus.

Log out of the site, then make sure you sign in the same way you signed up for Slate Plus—whether through a Slate account or a social site such as Facebook or Google Plus.

If you’re still experiencing issues, try signing out, clearing your browser’s cookies, and signing back in again.

If that doesn’t work, email

I’m signed in, but I’m getting a message that says you were unable to process the payment for my membership. What do I do?

Your credit card has expired or is no longer valid. On your account page, click “update your credit card information” inside the message box.

I can’t remember my password OR my password isn’t working. What do I do?

Click “Sign In” on the navigation bar in the upper right-hand corner of any page, then click on the “Forgot your password?” link. You’ll receive an email that will allow you to reset your password.

I got an email saying my trial is over in 24 hours and that Slate Plus is going to charge me. Didn't I already pay?

Nope! When you signed up and entered your credit card information, you started a two-week free trial. We waited to charge your card until you had a chance to check out Slate Plus and decided to stick around.

How do I renew my Slate Plus membership?

Your membership renews automatically, every month for monthly members and once a year for annual members.

How do I stop my Slate Plus membership from renewing?

Go to your Slate Plus account page and uncheck the box labeled “auto-renewing.”

When your membership expires, your Slate Plus account will be deactivated, and you will no longer have access to any Slate Plus content or benefits, including the ad-free podcast feeds. If you’d like to reactivate your membership in the future, go back to your Slate Plus account page and click “reactivate my membership.”

How do I cancel my Slate Plus membership?

Sorry to see you go! To cancel, visit your Slate Plus account page and click the link for “Cancel Subscription.”

How do I upgrade my monthly membership to an annual membership?

On your Slate Plus account page, in the “Current Subscription” area, click the link for upgrading your membership.

I have a question about my New York magazine subscription.

New members can choose a one-year (26-issue) subscription to New York magazine with a Slate Plus annual membership. For more information, click here.

I can’t see the comment section; it’s just a blank gray space.

Do you have an ad blocker enabled? Try disabling it or signing into an incognito or private browser window.

iPhone/iPad App Questions

Is Slate Plus available in the iPhone and iPad apps?

Yes, Slate Plus is available in both apps. We’re still working on making Slate Plus content available in our Android app.

I purchased a Slate Plus account on the Slate website. How do I access my Slate Plus subscription in the apps?

Go to the app menu


and tap “Settings,” then “Sign in.”


I purchased a Slate Plus account through the app, but I’m still seeing the roadblock pop-up when accessing Slate Plus content. Why?

When you purchase Slate Plus through the app, your subscription is tied to your Apple ID. Make sure you are logged into the App Store on your device with the same Apple ID you used to purchase your Slate Plus subscription. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, use the Restore link in the Slate Plus roadblock pop-up to retrieve your account from Apple.

I purchased Slate Plus through the iOS app. How do I listen to ad-free podcasts? Why aren’t I receiving Slate Plus emails? Where can I buy discounted event tickets?

To access some membership benefits, you’ll need to register your Slate Plus account on Slate’s website as well as in the app. (This is because of the way Apple handles in-app purchases.)

To register, go to Slate’s home page and create a free account. Then return to the iOS app, choose Settings in the menu, and associate your Slate Plus account with the account you just created on the site.

Now you can use this account to access Slate Plus outside the iOS app.

I purchased Slate Plus through the iOS app. How does auto-renewing work? How can I cancel my iTunes subscription?

Your account automatically renews at the end of each month or year. Payment is charged to your iTunes account.

To turn off auto-renewal, go to your subscription settings in the App Store. You must turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current subscription period, or your account will be billed for the next period. Unfortunately, Apple won’t let us cancel subscriptions during an active subscription period.
