On this week’s Gabfest, host John Dickerson is joined by Emily Bazelon and David Plotz. Among the topics: growing chaos in the Middle East, growing pressure to treat detainees like POWs, and growing the minimum wage—is it a winning issue for the Democrats in November?

And here’s one other recommended podcast that really resonates for anyone interested in press freedom. I just listened to the New York Times’ “TimesTalks” episode in which they assembled a great panel to recount the story of the Pentagon Papers. The tension, First Amendment drama, and huge stakes all feel very much like All the President’s Men, but it’s a far less familiar tale to many Americans. The panel includes Allan Siegal, one of the editors involved in the agonizing decision to publish; Floyd Abrams, who got the case in the middle of the night after the Times’ law firm refused to argue it; and James Risen, whose recent NSA wiretapping story raised many of the same issues. (It’s too bad the recording seems to have been made before the SWIFT controversy, which has exposed the Times to much more criticism.)

You can find the podcast here, on the TimesTalks Web site.
