Who Says Poetry Doesn't Pay?

Slate contributor Tom Sleigh wins $100,000 Kingsley Tufts Award.

Claremont Graduate University announced yesterday that it would be presenting its 2008 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award to Tom Sleigh, for his 2007 collection Space Walk. The award, granted annually to a single work by a mid-career poet, is one of the nation's most lucrative poetry prizes. Tom Sleigh is a professor of creative writing at New York's Hunter College and the author of seven books of poetry, a book of essays, and a translation of Euripides' Herakles. He is also a frequent Slate contributor. Click on the links below to read his poems or to hear Sleigh read them.
