Last week Al Gore and George W. Bush agreed to three debates moderated by PBS anchor Jim Lehrer. After the 1996 debates, Slate's Jack Shafer complained that Lehrer "bring[s] the sort of solemnity to the occasion that minimize[s] the risk of things getting interesting."
