This week the Indiana Pacers play the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals. In 1998, when the Pacers nearly dethroned Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, David Plotz assessed the skills of the Pacers' then-first-year coach, Larry Bird.
