Today’s Good News for Romney: Romney may be lagging in most polls, but he’s got the edge among one key demographic: seniors. A national poll released today by Quinnipiac University shows Romney leading Obama 51 percent to 46 percent among voters 55 and over. While the same poll has voters between 18 and 34 years of age heavily favoring Obama, seniors are much more likely to turn out on Election Day. Roughly 68 percent of voters 65 and over have voted in the last four presidential elections. Gallup found that the percentage of voters between 18 and 29 who said they would “definitely vote” fell from 78 percent in October 2008 to 58 percent in May 2012—a 20 point drop. Romney has been targeting senior citizens for a while—maybe it will pay off.
