The Palin Meter drops today to 45 percent. If even Fox News doesn't think Sarah Palin is running, we figure she really might not be running. The network has suspended Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum from appearing as contributors until they clarify their presidential intentions, but left Palin (and Mike Huckabee) out of the ban, at least for now.

Also moving the meter slightly leftward are a few new polling results. We knew that her favorability ratings were down among Republicans generally since 2008, but they're looking especially bad among Republicans in key presidential state Iowa. And in the South, where she should theoretically do better than a place like Iowa, new numbers show Palin well behind potential GOP candidates Huckabee and Gingrich.

Still, we'll keep the meter from plummeting too far: Palin has been candidate-level vocal lately on a couple of issues that are important to her base. She called President Obama's reversal of his position on the Defense of Marriage Act "appalling," and tweeted that the Supreme Court's ruling that the Westboro Baptist Church was allowed to protest outside military funerals was a decision absent of "common sense & decency." (This marked a return to Twitter after a week of silence, and a generally reduced presence on the site since the Arizona shootings.) Also, noted Palinographer Dana Milbank is back from his Palin-free month. Palin obviously wouldn't have wanted to drop any big news without him along for the ride.
