Lisa Marie Nowak couldn’t let go when fellow astronaut William Oefelein (aka “Billy-O“), with whom she shared “more than a working relationship but less than a romantic relationship,” showed a real or imagined interest in Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman. Nowak drove 900 miles from Houston to Orlando, wearing diapers (as astronauts apparently do) to avoid bathroom stops. There, in an airport parking lot, Nowak pepper-sprayed her purported romantic rival as Shipman pulled away. Police maintain that Nowak, who also had a steel mallet, a knife, a b.b. gun, and 4 feet of rubber tubing, meant to kill Shipman.
The hot document (see below and on the following four pages) is an affidavit from the Orlando, Florida, Police Department charging Nowak with assault, attempted kidnapping, destruction of evidence, possession of a firearm, and attempted murder.
