Is Linda Chavez related to Linda Chavez-Thompson?
In today’s New York Times, the AFL-CIO’s Linda Chavez-Thompson attacks the explanations given by now former Bush nominee for secretary of labor, Linda Chavez, about the illegal immigrant who once lived in her home. Are the two Linda Chavezes related?
No, although both have served as labor executives, both are in their 50s, and both were born in the Southwest. Linda Chavez, 53, who withdrew as labor nominee, was born in New Mexico and has long been a nemesis of organized labor, but earlier in her career she worked for the American Federation of Teachers. Linda Chavez-Thompson, 56, was born in Texas and since 1995 has been the executive vice president of the AFL-CIO. The “Thompson” comes from her late husband.
