The Breakfast Table :
An e-mail conversation about the news of the day.
Zoë Heller and James Wolcott
Entry 19:
Dear Zoë,
What I meant was that what I saw in her eyes--and slumping, depleted posture--was psychological desolation rather than evil. A jury will decide her fate, but should she be found guilty, I still think she should be spared the death penalty.
As I type, MSNBC is doing an exclusive interview with a mother who was booted for breastfeeding her baby at Kmart: "The woman told me to put my breast away." And deeper down the tubes cable news goes.
Jim
