Ginger and Richard Rhodes
Entry 11:
Rhodeman,
I, too, have been trying to catch up with the towering stack of magazines and journals. It's hell being compulsive. I spent most of the hour trying to lower my stress after booking our July research trip (the August trip will have to wait until tomorrow), so I skimmed through some old copies of AOPA Pilot. Although there were plenty of interesting stories for pilot types (weather, landing, weather, landing, and then more weather), the April issue did have an interesting story about the Boeing Company. It seems that Boeing is developing a proposal for a GPS satellite-based air traffic control system and intends to present the plan to the Bush administration this month. Boeing was also scheduled to begin launching a new generation of GPS satellites. Company officials say that it's time to break away from the 1950s-era system the FAA currently uses. No kidding. This story said that Boeing is also ready to advance the feds the billions of dollars it would take to implement a new system. I know corporations don't do much, if anything, to improve our lives without improving the bottom line, but it's exciting to think that people outside the box are taking a look at our clunky ATC system.
Yes, I do have clients this afternoon, so I'm off. Hmmm, maybe I should stay ...
xo and all that jazz,
G
