David Brooks and Susan Estrich

Entry 3:

I'll take a truce provided we eliminate the real crazies on both sides. I don't know this Prof. Roth, but I have to say, I find his comments troubling, if only for their naivete, insensitivity, etc. I mean--really. My problem is not that Bork didn't make it on the Court or Lani to the Justice Department (I had read her work, and was quite frankly surprised that Clinton ever nominated her), but that far more moderate people are being zinged--by your friends, I'm afraid--for such things as awarding custody to a gay partner (disqualifying a Superior Court judge from San Diego) or voting for a pro-choice resolution in the bar association (which held up Margaret Morrow's confirmation for about a year).
