Slate Is Seeking an Editorial Assistant

Slate is hiring a full-time editorial assistant in its New York office. The assistant’s primary responsibility will be to provide editorial, research, and administrative help to Slate’s reporters and editors. There will also be opportunities for writing and blogging.
Ideal candidates will be organized, diplomatic, hard-working, and detail-oriented. They will write sparkling copy. They will also demonstrate top-notch editorial judgment and broad cultural interests. One to two years of editorial experience is preferred. Good humor and menschiness are a big plus. This is a 12-month position, with benefits.

- A 400-word Brow Beat post. (You can write an installment of a regular series, such as Trailer Critic, Where Do I Start With, or You’re Doing It Wrong, or you can simply write a post about a cultural topic that interests you.)
- Three clips or writing samples
