Slate Needs a Lawyer

Someone who knows media law and technology and loves Slate. Is it you?

Slate is looking for an in-house lawyer.

This is a good problem for us to have, because we know that lawyers comprise a significant chunk of Slate’s audience. (I often suspect that the typical Slate reader is a lawyer on a conference call, reading Dahlia Lithwick and Emily Bazelon while paying half-attention to a client.)

Our lawyer needs to be a Swiss army knife. We need someone who can do pre-publication review. We need someone who can offer sound advice about intellectual property, privacy, and defamation. We need someone who understands the tech business and can negotiate contracts with tech companies. We need someone who knows when to seek expert outside counsel. And of course we need someone who loves and understands Slate.

If you’re interested in becoming our in-house lawyer, please submit a resume and a cover letter here. You should have at least several years experience (or much more!) in media law, technology law, or some excellent combination of the two. The position is located in Washington, D.C., or New York, with a slight preference for D.C.
