Sharknado, the Biggest Emmy Snub of Them All

A case for the best worst TV movie of the year.

Every year, the Emmy Awards—replete with stale jokes and predictable winners—can be somewhat of a disappointment. This year’s show, though, was an especially big letdown for fans of the small screen. Despite the artistic bravery shown by Thunder Levin and Anthony C. Ferrante, and the unparalleled performances of Tara Reid, Ian Ziering, and the rest of the cast, Sharknado—a film only surpassed in brilliance by its recently-aired sequel, Sharknado 2: The Second One—was completely shut out of the Emmy festivities.

To not take home an award is one thing—just ask Jon Hamm—but for true genius of that level to not even receive so much as a nomination? That’s simply unforgivable. And given the unquestioned cinematic caliber of the movie itself, it’s clear to us that the problem existed solely on the publicity front. That being the case, we took the liberty of righting that particular wrong, and made a (belated) For Your Consideration video to celebrate the Emmy-worthiness of Sharknado—with a few nods to Sharknado 2, just for good measure. Enjoy, and stay out of the water (and, uh, the skies).
