Hurricane, Remembered

Memoirs by teenagers who survived Katrina.

On Aug. 28, Slate will commemorate the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina by publishing four memoirs of the storm written by New Orleans high-school students; their essays will be accompanied by video shot on-site in their homes and neighborhoods.

Like many others, these teenagers remained in the city during the storm, hoping to wait it out, but were forced to leave in the chaotic circumstances after the levees broke and the city flooded. All four have since returned to the city.
