The same is true of Kicking & Screaming. While that titleis certainly preferable to Soccer Dads, surely any meeting of creative minds could have generated something more innovative. Perhaps Baumbach and Cronenberg will have the last laugh. The New York Times is already confused, and Kicking & Screaming hasn't even been released. Just last weekend, Dave Kehr offered a lineup of summer movies. On the newspaper's Web site, the link to Ferrell's Kicking & Screamingtakes readers to a 1995 write-up of Baumbach's Kicking and Screaming, which calls the film "one of the better examples" of the "Generation X comedy-drama" typified by Slacker and Singles. Will Ferrell as a soul-searching, philosophizing, counterculture nonconformist—that's aperformance that would have audiences kicking and screaming.
